8 sentences from Yours to Command (ES Siren 2)

Yours to Command (ES Siren 2) comes out on August 28. It's book 2 in the sci-fi romance series, ES Siren, I'm writing with Mel Teshco and Denise Rossetti.

Here are my 8 sentences:
The prisoner, 1789, looked as though he’d seen better days. His cheek was split open and blood was trickling down his olive skin and into the scruffy, not-quite-a-beard that was becoming popular among the prisoners, as it meant less shaving. Her gaze flicked to his hands. His knuckles were red and grazed.

“What happened?”

“I tripped and fell down a few stairs.” 1789 looked her in the eye as he spoke. His voice was perfectly modulated, but she knew it was a lie.

However fighting in the Rounds didn’t exactly conform to Alex's plan to study hard and survive. People would notice him for all the wrong reasons.

Zane smiled, his teeth a perfect white that only money could buy. “I don’t have all day.”

Alex swallowed down the loathing at being forced to obey. “1700 hours, Sir. I’ll be there.”

Zane turned on his heel and walked away, his shoes clanging on the metal floor. For a moment Alex thought he wasn’t going to release the magna-cuffs, but Zane pressed the button just as he reached the door. Alex let his hands fall to his sides and listened until he could no longer pick Zane’s footsteps from the others.

He was yellow bacteria in the belly of a metal beast flying faster than he could imagine toward Solitaire. He was insignificant in the grand scheme of the new colony. The three ships traveling from Earth carried thousands of prisoners, all sent to build the new town and work the fields. Some would die before finishing their sentence and tasting freedom. He didn’t want to be one of them. His plan shifted from surviving the twelve-month trip and serving his time in the colony to become a free man in four years. Now, it was just about surviving the Rounds.

He would do anything to protect her, if only she'd let him.

Corporal Sienna Jade wasn't given a choice about joining the mission to Unity. Seen as a troublemaker after reporting an assault by a senior officer, the army wanted her gone. Sienna resents the army for assigning her to Earth Ship Siren, and suspects the fleet's Unity mission will fail. But others would do anything to escape Earth ...

Alex Tariel knew his only chance to get a place on ES Siren was as a prisoner, so he stole water rations. As a former construction foreman, his skills make him a valuable prisoner on board, but still a prisoner unable to control his own life. Instead of keeping his head down, he gets involved in the fights set up for gambling privilege tokens, the only currency aboard ship among the prisoners.

Getting patched up by Corporal Jade might be the best thing that's happened to Alex on the trip so far, but becoming her ship husband puts him between her and the lieutenant who tried to kill her for kicks on Earth. While Sienna tries to keep control of her feelings for Alex, Alex would do anything to protect her, if only she'd let him.

As ES Siren faces its first crisis, a little trust and love goes a long way.

8 sentences from The Changeling Soldier

Here are 8 sentences from my latest release The Changeling Soldier. 99c for a limited time.

His fingers curled at the mention of iron. Iron; as in wrought iron or cast iron. Steel didn’t give him any problems, but iron burned. He remembered running his fingers along a wrought iron fence on the way to school, the old red paint flaking off and his fingertips burning as though he’d touched a hot saucepan.

As a teen he’d discovered that iron filings in science class had the same effect. His skin would redden and sting as though burned. He didn’t like where his thoughts were heading. Who was his father? Or more correctly, what was his father?

Here are 8 sentences from my latest release The Changeling Soldier. 99c for a limited time.

“Give me your soul, and I’ll keep it safe while you are in Annwyn,” Ella said as she placed her hand on his chest. Snow caught on her dark eyelashes. Her eyes were the palest of gold. Logic screamed that he’d be dead without a soul, but all he could do was nod in agreement.

Isaac gasped, his heart giving a hard beat as though it had forgotten what to do while he was…not daydreaming, but not here either.

Ella smiled and glanced away. The whole thing had happened in a split second even though it seemed like longer to him, and he now knew what she was.

SFRB Presents: Lunar Dancer

On May 30th the third book in the Decadent Moon series it released! This story features a prince in hiding and a woman on a quest. Here's a snippet.

The rules flashed on the screens, alternating with ads for various shows, restaurants, gambling centers and what looked like a very active trading of flesh. She paused to watch a few more of the ads. The ruling Amayan Elders would be horrified at the lack of morals, not to mention the lack of class system. Here everyone was equal regardless of parentage. The only thing that mattered on Decadent Moon was a person’s chit balance. Here chits really could by class.

Two years of traveling the galaxy had made her realize that the Elders were an uptight bunch of prudes, and yet she wanted to go home more than anything else in the universe. She closed her eyes for a moment. Would her daughter even recognize her?

It would be at least another Allied Standard Year before she had the chits to pay the fine…then she could go home and then…she didn't know. Her plan didn't go beyond paying the fine and getting her daughter back. She pressed her claws into her palm and opened her eyes. Standing here wasn't going to get her any closer to going home.
